Four Points Continues Their Hot Streak With Boss Puzzle IPA Overbranded: Strata DIPA

If you’ve been keeping in the loop with the local breweries around the Pittsburgh area, you’ve no doubt by now heard about Four Points Brewing and their unbelievably good hazy IPAs! Opening their doors in 2018 in Charleroi, PA, just a short drive south of the city, Four Points has created quite a name for itself in that short time. While their hazies are what gets people in the door, their depth is what keeps them there. From fruited sours and Vienna lagers to imperial stouts (a personal favorite style of your humble author), these guys can do it all... and do it all well! This past weekend, 4P released two new cans:

  • Boss Puzzle IPA is a New England-style IPA that clocks in at 6.6% ABV and is hopped with Sabro and Azacca. According to the brewer, this one is “dripping with intense notes of pineapple, coconut, and tropical fruits.” This one, a fan favorite at Four Points’ taproom, is making its’ debut in cans this week! This brew currently holds a 3.93/5 on Untappd.

  • Overbranded: Strata DIPA is an imperial New England-style IPA, weighing in at 8.5% ABV, and is the latest entry in Four Points’ single hop double IPA series; the prior Overbrandeds have featured Vic Secret and Citra hops. The brewery states, “it’s thick and aromatic, with notes of Citrus, Passion Fruit, Mango, Strawberry and some Dankness”. At time of writing, this one sits at an astounding 4.43/5 on Untappd.

So now that we’ve heard what the brewery has to say about these beers, what do I think?

Boss Puzzle IPA

  • Look: It pours a very nice light orangeish color. It’s hazy and features a thick, frothy head.

  • Smell: Aromas of grapefruit and other citrus fruits are what stands out most to me. Coconut is also lingering on the nose.

  • Taste: Tons of coconut! The Sabro is definitely the dominant hop here. The tropical vibes make this one super light and refreshing. The kind of beer I could drink plenty of!

  • Thought: A terrific brew from Four Points that would be perfect for cooling off on a hot day. The definition of crushable. If you like other Sabro dominant IPAs like Hitchhiker Cosmic Void and Insurrection Gamehendge, this one will be right up your alley!

Overbranded: Strata DIPA

  • Look: This one is what the Gen Z kids on TikTok would call THICC! It pours a beautiful, deep orange color with minimal head.

  • Smell: Aromas of citrusy fruits, mango, and a bit of that dankness they mentioned are what hits the nose first.

  • Taste: Unbelievably tasty! The mango and other assorted tropical flavors are what strike my palate, as well as some strawberry (though I might not have been able to put my finger on this if I hadn’t read the label). It’s about as smooth as any DIPA I’ve ever had (right up there with Old Nation Boss Tweed). No boozy harshness whatsoever!

  • Thought: Another big winner from Four Points! Their brewer tweeted on Saturday that the Overbranded series has become the “crown jewel of their lineup” and, after tasting this one, I absolutely agree!
